How we reset and recalibrate an automatic gate

If the gate has power but ignores every command, it usually needs a reset and a re-set of its travel limits. Here's the sequence our technicians run.

   Power cycle (soft reset). Cut power at the breaker for at least 60 seconds, then restore it. This clears most minor electrical glitches and temporary sensor faults.

   Disconnect the backup battery. A soft reset only works if the battery is out of the loop — we pull it for 30 seconds so the board fully clears.

   Clean and realign the photo eyes. We wipe the lenses and adjust them until both indicator lights hold solid. Cobwebs and moisture are the usual culprits.

   Hard reset at the control board. If it's still unresponsive, we hold the board's reset button for 5–10 seconds until the LEDs flash.

   Reprogram the travel limits. A hard reset wipes the gate's open and closed positions — we re-teach them so the gate stops exactly where it should.

   Re-pair the remotes and keypad. Finally we re-sync every transmitter to the receiver's rolling code so all your access devices work again.
